My wife and I have recently been taking late winter vacations to the southwest where we like to thaw out from our Alaskan winters. This year the Coronavirus put a halt to a 2020 trip so I opted to virtually return to one of my favorite desert areas, the area around Death Valley, California. There is a geologically sculptured mountain south of Death Valley Junction particularly intrigues me. Every angle from which we view the mountain at any time of day seems to provide inspiration for a new painting subject. Desert Sentinel depicts an abstracted version of that un-named mountain.
