I took a trip to France in 2016 and had the opportunity to see and tour Mont St. Michel in Normandy, France. I was inspired to do a painting. The tide was out and the small sailboats that normally floated around the Monastery were now stuck in the sand. It is a metaphor for how abandoned and stuck in the sand we all now feel, and looming large in the background is this medieval structure with a dramatic sky. I believe that this Monastery stood alone and weathered many storms we are being asked to do right now in 2020. This piece was done back home in my studio.
