In California, we have had the shelter in place orders for the past two months. I have been painting each day on the landscape as well as in my studio painting still life works and a couple of self portraits. As sad and as tragic this has been for so many people, I have felt so fortunate to be healthy and an artist. I have found the quiet time at home and my studio without any commitments has been something I have been longing to have for a while. I am mostly focused and excited to emerge in my work. Part of that focus has been spending more time still life painting and this piece, "Peony", is one of my works from this May. It's the first peony to flower in our garden after planting more than ten years ago.
